Glen Park was deserted. Even the Glen Park Station bar was closed. You could stand in the middle of the street without fear as you could see traffic coming from a stop light away.
The exception was our neighborhood Chinese restaurant, Win Garden, where the joint was jumping and business was brisk. The clientele was overwhelmingly male, if that means anything.
When asked why he was eating takeout on Christmas, one of the customers, Jim, said “I guess I just don’t have plans myself. My family decided to see their in-laws this year instead and as a result I’m on my own, which is OK. I think it’s a huge luxury to not have to travel during Christmas and during the holidays, so I’m just taking the time to enjoy myself.”
“My family just orders takeout on Christmas and we just love this place,” said Sam Chamberlain , another customer waiting for his dinner to come out of the busy kitchen. “I actually live in Los Angeles but my parents live in Noe Valley. Whenever we come up we try to order from here.”
Elsewhere in the village, you could get last minute items from our reliable corner stores, Glen Park Market and Buddies.
