In the aftermath of the accident of August 15 in which a 61-year old woman was fatally struck by a truck, SFMTA has initiated “No Right on Red” signs at the Diamond/Bosworth intersection. The accident is under a thorough investigation by SFPD.
This morning work crews were already installing the signs on three of the four corners of the intersection; the fourth, at the southeast corner at the BART station, will be installed in a week or so. A different assembly system requires a special part that has been ordered.
Janet Tarlov, president of the Glen Park Merchants Association and recently appointed to the SFMTA board, obtained this information from Brian B Dusseault, senior engineer of the streets division of SFMTA.
The SFMTA Rapid Response Team evaluated the intersection and traffic signal last week and recommended the changes shown the table below. Links to the SFMTA vison zero page where the table is located and a direct link to the table are below.
- A work order to install the No Right on Red signs has been sent to the MTA sign shop. They should be installed in the next day or two.
- The leading pedestrian intervals will require time to prepare and program. I do not have an estimated date for that yet.
