Greetings to all from the Friends of Sunnyside Conservatory;
October has begun! We hope you will mark your calendar and join us for the following events:
• We will have a wonderful concert, a presentation by the “Horns-A-Plenty”, on October 25th. This 5 piece brass ensemble is redefining what it is to be a brass quintet. They play swing, jazz, Dixieland, classical music, fanfares, 19th century Americana, wedding favorites, love songs and ballads. They have one foot in JS Bach and the other in Duke Ellington, with plenty of brass in between.
The doors will open at 6:50 PM; music will begin at 7:15 PM. Light refreshments will be served at intermission.
A $10 donation is requested.
• On October 28th, we invite you to possibly the 8th? Conservatory Pumpkin Carving! The doors will be open from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The event is free, but we do need you to provide your own pumpkin(s). We will provide carving tools for your use, but please be sure children are supervised by an adult as they carve and extract pumpkin guts (their term, not ours.
If 10/28 doesn’t work for you, the Sunnyside Neighborhood Assn’s has a free Halloween Party on October 27th, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. It will be held on Marston Street at Edna. It includes a jumpy house, children’s games, a raffle, and costume and pumpkin carving contests and refreshments. You can check it out at www.sunnysideassociation.org
News on the stair lighting project. Contact with our Project Manager produced the following update. The PUC has received the needed information from RPD, and will be working on the lighting layout. In several weeks, they will contact us about a meeting with neighbors to discuss the lighting layout. They are finding out if another EIR is necessary for the installation of the lights, and if the historic nature of the Conservatory means extra steps will be required to deter- mine the impact the lights on the Conservatory. We will be kept posted. This is progress!
**** As always, we need volunteer help with set up and clean up for both of our events. In addition, we need cookies or other finger food for our guests. Please let me know if you can help in either or both areas. E-mails_schulz@pacbell.net. Thank you!
Details for both events will be found on our web site, www.sunnysideconservatory.org
Best regards,
