Are you ready for some more neighborhood beautification? We hope so!
There’s a new Glen Park resident-led effort to transform the dreary Elk Street
retaining wall of the Glen Canyon ball field into a beautiful mural. The idea
came from long-time GP resident Suzanne Ginsburg who contacted Renee
Berger, the project leader of Burnside Mural+, seeking to learn how a mural
project is realized.
The critical first step, getting permission from SF’s Recreation and Parks
Department, has been achieved. The permission allows the newly minted
“Elk Street Mural” project to start proceeding through a long list of steps.
Steps include selecting a muralist, determining fundraising needs, producing
a design, getting letters of support, review by the SF Arts Commission, and
finally, painting the mural.
But importantly we want to hear your ideas for the mural. We’d love to see you at a community input meeting at the Glen Park Recreation Center on September 28th from 10:30am – noon. Please come! Here’s a short survey that should take about 3 minutes and will be of great value for the project.
Thank you!
Elk Street Mural is a project of Burnside Mural+ through which it is fiscally
sponsored by the SF Parks Alliance.
