Word on the street is that this afternoon Mayor Lee will announce HIV/AIDS activist Jeff Sheehy to be our District 8 supervisor, vacated by Scott Wiener who has moved on to the state Senate.
Sheehy, a Glen Park resident and public school parent, is the director of communications for the UCSF AIDS Research Institute. He has served on the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee and was president of the Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club.
GPA president Michael Rice says he had been following the accounts of people Mayor Lee had been considering to appoint to the D8 seat.
“I know them as smart, capable people,” he said. “I did have a chance to talk with Jeff Sheehy recently. He brings a lot of experience on city-wide issues, and he also spoke about Glen Park concerns: traffic and transit, housing resources, and businesses in the ‘village.’ Jeff will have a busy schedule right away, but we will invite him to talk at the next GPA meeting on January 26 at St. John School.”
