I have a granddaughter born Sept. 25, and I just wanted to say how helpful the Glen Park Parents listserv has been in equipping her and her parents and helping them all feel cared for! My San Francisco-born-and-bred son and his wife (and baby) live in Wisconsin, and don’t have a baby network yet, but I’ve been on this one since my kids (28 and 24) were young.
I bought my son and daughter-in-law (and baby Alex) a like-new Ergobaby carrier and a full set of diaper covers. Parents gave us, free, an unexpired Chicco car seat and full collections of good-quality cloth diapers, many unused.
A few months ago I bought them an assortment of used toddler winter gear for a tiny price (I can’t remember if that was on Glen Park Parents or Nextdoor), which I haven’t sent to Wisconsin yet since it’s all for next winter and beyond. So when someone on Nextdoor was looking for a toddler snowsuit to borrow recently, I lent one — I’m happy this can go both ways.
My daughter-in-law, who’s Bulgarian, had the idea that European car seats were much safer, so her family sent one from Bulgaria. But when they came to visit us and we used the Chicco car seat I’d been given, they really liked it and took it home with them. They’re on their way right now to Sofia so Alex can meet Baba (grandma) and the rest of the family, and I see from pictures they just sent changing planes in Munich that they took the Chicco car seat.
So thanks, everyone! Also, I note that Yahoo listserves are considered totally outdated, but this one still works really well. Happy holidays!
