In anticipation of this weekend’s rain, Randy Zebell, San Francisco Recreation and Parks natural habitat environmentalist, supervised five Friends of Glen Canyon Park volunteers who worked for three hours introducing California native plants to a slope adjacent to O’Shaughnessy Blvd. Altogether, 55 plants such as sticky monkey flower, coffee berry, Islais cherry, silk tassel bush and California sage were planted. After invasive French broom and Cape ivy were removed from the hillside, the California natives were placed in the the rocky soil. The plants, designed to diversify the surroundings, will produce berries for both birds and canyon coyotes, which have a particular fondness for coffee berry.”
