At around 10:00 a.m. this morning, a tree was in flames on the east side of San Jose Avenue going north. It was near the J-Church streetcar line stop for Glen Park.
SFFD responded with multiple fire engines, trucks and an ambulance. By 11:30, the fire was extinguished, and crews were mopping up among the vegetation.
Police said the cause of the fire was unknown, but an observer noted extensive piles of trash around the tree.
After the fire was put out, police were waiting for a city arborist to come to assess the tree for removal. In the meantime, San Jose avenue was closed in both directions.
