After getting a notification from the San Francisco Health Department about a rodent infestation, Glen Park’s beloved Destination Bakery is in the midst of a major cleanup.
The Health Department notice ordered the bakery to shut down while the problems were dealt with. Its demands were very broad and it will take time to finish what is now a massive overhaul of the long-time bakery’s space, owner Joe Schuver told the Glen Park News.
But neighbors shouldn’t worry that the popular spot’s Danishes and cinnamon rolls will never come back.
Schuver said he has every hope of reopening in April once the Health Department has signed off on the work.
“My number one concern right now is taking care of my employees, Maria. Deborah and India, during this downtime,” he said. He and his husband Wil are committed to the bakery.
Many San Francisco businesses have faced rodent issues over the years, part of an ongoing problem, especially for those who work in older buildings. The expenses can be high and the rules persnickety. Destination is not the first nor will it be the last to contend with this.
