A man in his 90s was unhurt, but two fences and a backyard were damaged when he lost control of his Mitsubishi Gallant coming down Thor St. towards Chenery at about 9 AM Tuesday morning.Witnesses reported that a garbage truck had stopped on Thor and when the man attempted to go around it, he lost control of his vehicle at the curve near the bottom of Thor just before it hits Chenery.
The unnamed man’s car took out two fences and dropped five feet below grade into the backyard at 2780 Diamond St., witnesses say.
Officers on the scene said the man was being taken to the hospital for observation but appeared to be unhurt.
Police, who were not authorized to speak and so cannot be named, said that the owner of the house whose yard the car ended up in will need to have it lifted out by crane, then request reimbursement from the city.
Glen Park News photographer Michael Waldstein was on the scene and got this shot.
