Greetings to the All Friends of Sunnyside Conservatory!
First of all, this note is a reminder of the “Horn’s A Plenty” Concert in the Conservatory this next Thursday, October 25th. The doors open for set up at 6:30 PM, and for concert admission 6:50 PM; music will begin at 7:15 PM. The reason for the odd timing is that the Horns will be playing two – forty minute sets with a 20 minute intermission. In case you haven’t checked the website: “Horns A Plenty” is a 5 piece brass ensemble that is re-defining what it is to be a brass quintet. They play swing, jazz, Dixieland, classical music, fanfares, 19th century Americana, wedding favorites, love songs and ballads. They have one foot in JS Bach and the other in Duke Ellington, with plenty of brass in between. It promises to be a fun and memorable evening. Light refreshments will be provided. We are asking for a $10 donation at the door.
Our annual pumpkin carving follows close behind on Sunday, October 28th, from 1:30 to 4:30 PM. This event is free! Please bring your own pumpkin. Children’s carving tools will be provided, but please supervise your children when they use them. We would love to have some cookie contributions to make it especially fun for the kids. If you are able, we could use some help with setting up at 1:00 PM. There will be tables to set up and cover with paper, and a moderate number of chairs.
Someone, I believer Riz, asked for the dates of our future gardening work days. Four are scheduled at this point: Saturday, December 1st 2012; Saturday, March 16th 2013; Saturday, June 15th 2013, and Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013.
And a suggestion: if you can’t come on Sunday for the Pumpkin Carving, you can consider the free Halloween Party and Carnival on Saturday Oct. 27th from 3 to 6 PM on the 100 block of Marston at Edna, adjacent to City College. It is being given by the Sunnyside Neighborhood Association.
We look forward to seeing you and enjoying these community events.
Sincerely yours,
Sally
