Come match wits with an opponent in the most strategic of board games: Chess!

January 8, 2024 by Darren Heiber, Branch Manager, Glen Park Library

The Glen Canyon Park Recreation Center and Glen Park Branch Library are teaming up to offer our first-ever co-located programming, a free all-ages chess club. You can drop in on the chess club any Thursday between 4 and 6 pm.

1st, 3rd, and 5th Thursdays will be hosted at the library.
2nd and 4th Thursdays you can find the chess club at the recreation center.

Our hope is to provide locations and times that are convenient for you, regardless of where you live in our beautiful neighborhood. Neither location offers formal instruction, but both will provide chess boards and pieces.

If you have any questions about the chess club, please stop by either location or write gpamgr@sfpl.org

This new offering is just one of the many wonderful community programs and events you can find at the library and community center. We can’t wait to see you at one of our events.

A huge thank you to @glenparkhistorysf Evelyn Rose, SF Planning, and SF Board of Supervisors President @rafaelmandelmand8 for a great talk on Glen Park history and SF Survey.

“SF Survey is a multi-year program by the Planning Department to identify and document places and resources of cultural historical, and architectural importance to San Francisco’s diverse communities.”

Stop in at the Glen Park Branch Library and check out photos of Glen Park Storefronts/buildings that have historical value!
