On Sunday at approximately 3:45, the City’s general alarm located on Glen Park Elementary School went off, telling neighbors in its loud, tinny voice “This is only a test.”
As the alarm is only supposed to go off Tuesday at noon unless there’s a real emergency, calls flooded 911 and Ingleside Station. The only information police could give was that they didn’t know of anything going on and it must have been a mistake.
On Monday we learned that City officials meant to activate the alarm only in Chinatown to signal that the streets were reopened after Sunday Streets event in the neighborhood, according to a KCBS report.
Perhaps they should rethink that idea. Emergency system should be just for that, an emergency. And the Tuesday noon test.
