Rick and Nada Malouf, owners of the Cheese Boutique at 660 Chenery St., were honored in a ceremony at San Francisco City Hall on May 15, 2018.
Each year, the San Francisco Small Business Commission teams up with the San Francisco Board of Supervisors to honor and recognize an exceptional small business from each of San Francisco’s 11 districts.
This year, Sup. Jeff Sheehy of District 8 chose to honor the Maloufs, who in 1993 opened the Cheese Boutique. Back then, Glen Park had no white-napkin restaurants, no bakery, no gourmet grocery or taqueria. The library was still in the space now occupied by Bird & Beckett and Glen Park was considered a backwater.
No more, and Rick and Nada, both originally from Lebanon, are part of the reason. You can walk in any day for a sandwich, some cheese, a nice assortment of gourmet and Middle Eastern items and of course Rick’s renowned hummus (the secret is painstakingly removing the hulls from the garbanzo beans, he says.)
Congratulations and here’s to many more years of The Cheese Boutique!
