On the weekend of December 2 and 3, Caltrans will prune and remove trees along their right-of-way that pose a risk to BART operations. This proactive work between Glen Park and Daly City stations will help protect the system from fallen trees. Last year, fallen trees derailed two trains and delayed trains on multiple occasions.
Completing this work now removes trees ahead of winter storms when they can damage critical infrastructure. The attached mailer went out to residents near the BART right-of-way from Daly City to Glen Park Station.
This important safety work will take place on December 2 and 3. In the event of inclement weather on December 2 and 3, work will be moved to December 9 and 10. During this work, train service between the Glen Park and Daly City stations will be replaced by a free bus shuttle, which could result in delays of up to 30 minutes. See the bus bridge map. We have also posted this passenger bulletin on bart.gov https://www.bart.gov/news/articles/2023/news20231108-0
Tree work will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and include the use of chainsaws and woodchippers. In addition to tree pruning and removal, BART will perform track improvements and station maintenance. Other construction activities will require lights and equipment with backing alarms for worker safety.
You can learn more about BART’s efforts to remove hazardous trees on our project website. Thank you for your patience as BART conducts this critical maintenance work.
