The mailboxes of several Glen Park apartment buildings were forced open overnight on March 25/26, and mail from a building on the unit block of Joost Avenue was found around the corner, scattered on the lawn of Glen Park School.
While walking his dog at 6:00 am on March 26, Glen Park resident Dan Goldes saw that his building’s four mailboxes had been forced open, as had those at 8 Joost and at least two buildings in the 2900 block of Diamond. The latter were forced open despite being behind locked gates.
Mailbox vandalism and mail theft has occurred sporadically in the neighborhood over the past several years. interestingly, a neighbor noted that the locks hadn’t been forced, leading to the idea that someone may have had a master key.
If you think was mail stolen out of your mailbox or your mailbox was vandalised, report it to the US Postal Service (Choose “Theft” or “Vandalism.”) and the SF Police Department. If nothing was stolen, you can still file a police report of vandalism, so the issue is flagged with the city.
