Monday morning was more than Chenery Street could handle.
With Diamond Street closed for sewer work for the past month or so, the 54 Muni bus has been rerouted and travels easterly along the stretch of Chenery Street west of Diamond Street. On this day Chenery Street itself was closed on the 700 block, before the Diamond Street intersection. The intersection was a hive of activity, backhoes tearing up the streets and sidewalks, manholes exposed. Now pedestrians were being rerouted as well.
Marco Williams, a #54 Muni bus driver, hadn’t gotten the word from the higher ups about the new road block. Not being able to make a U-turn on Chenery Street, and awaiting further instructions, Williams and his bus were stranded on a glorious Glen Park morning at around 8:30.
By ten o’clock, the bus was gone. City workers helped it back up down Chenery St. towards Glen Canyon, until it could make the turn onto Lippard and freedom via Bosworth street.
