Hello supporters of the Diamond Heights Blvd. Median Project,

I am pleased to share some good news. Our project has received a second grant from the City of San Francisco’s Community Challenge Grant program.

I will share more details next week, but in short, we will receive just under $41,000 to pay for drip irrigation, minor hardscape, and ~2,000 plants to complete our landscape plan.

We are sincerely grateful to Lanita Henriquez and her team at CCG for considering our application, and to our fiscal sponsor, SF Parks Alliance.

Meanwhile, the urgently needed rains have been working their magic across northern California, and our new trees have been lucky to have such a perfect first winter to get established.

The rain, however, has also brought weeds, and we need to remove them before they set seed. (Think fewer weeds to pull come spring.)

Will you join us?

We’ve scheduled a volunteer maintenance day for this Saturday, January 28.

Pull one weed or a dozen. Stay for 20 mins or the whole morning.

Please reply directly to me if you would like to participate, or have questions.

Recommended for 12 years and older; no gardening experience required, but there will be bending and kneeling (pads and gloves will be provided).

Diamond Heights Blvd. Median Islands Spiff-ication Day
Date: Saturday, January 28
Time: 9:00 to 12:00 noon – any portion of time you can help is fine
Location: Meet at St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church,z Parish Hall (Lower Level)
Refreshments: Coffee, tea, juice, bagels and snacks

As a side note, some neighbors have asked about the mulch (and current “bareness” of the medians). We’re on a multi-year installation schedule, and some unexpected issues, like broken median irrigation pipes, have to be repaired by the City before we can install our landscape design. Please spread the word. We’re not finished.

And if you can’t join us on Saturday, we have two more weeding days scheduled (in February and March).

All the best,
Paul
