SJA Off-Ramp Two Lanes Again

Per Caltrans’ studies that were seconded by a third-party engineering company, the northbound San Jose Avenue off-ramp is returning to two lanes.

“Caltrans has completed the resurfacing work on the northbound San Jose Avenue off-ramp off of I-280 as of yesterday, and that temporary striping is in place. The contractor is scheduled to install the permanent striping next Tuesday (9/20) and Wednesday (9/21) nights,” said Anna Harvey, a senior engineer with the San Francisco County Transportation Authority.

    Just one comment:

    YEA!!

And I suppose a “thank you” to the powers-that-be for being reasonable when it became obvious that this “solution” was making the off-ramp less safe instead of more safe.

Just to be clear: I think no one liked the merged offramp after they’d seen it in play. Some folks wanted a return to the two-lane offramp (which is what is happening) and some wanted a return to the pre-1989 one-lane offramp.

Not that that should dampen your celebration! 😉

Happy that it was proven to not be appropriate. Now let’s continue with the other projects in place, that also are not working.
