Twin Peaks Pilot Project

Forwarded from Melinda Stockman, SF RecPark:

Dear Twin Peaks Neighbors and Friends,

Thank you for your continued interest in the Twin Peaks Figure 8 Redesign Project. This project, a joint effort of the SFMTA and Rec and Park Departments, seeks to create better connectivity within the Twin Peaks trail system, improve pedestrian and bicycle access, and provide a defined connection to the Bay Area Ridge Trail.  The City is hoping to make significant long-term investments to one of San Francisco’s most popular parks and thank all of you who have attended community meetings and provided your feedback during the last 9 months.

We wanted to remind you about an exciting opportunity to implement a Pilot Project this summer, and that the SFMTA Board of Directors will be voting on temporary transportation changes at their Hearing on Tuesday, April 19th. The Pilot Project would reallocate a portion of the existing roadway from vehicle use to pedestrian and bicycle use.

If approved, the Twin Peaks Pilot Project would be implemented this summer using temporary materials and will allow the Project Team to study how these changes affect transportation around the park and adjacent neighborhoods. The pilot would end by May of 2018, allowing for thorough analysis of traffic changes and visitor and resident feedback and development of recommendations for permanent changes. The SFMTA Board of Directors will make a decision on the final proposal for the roadway at that time, and we will keep you informed as the longer term design proposal, with additional features and amenities, moves along.  Please click here for an FAQ sheet developed for the Pilot Project.

Share Your Input The pilot proposal will be presented for approval at the SFMTA Board of Directors Hearing on April 19, 2016.  You can add your input in person at the Hearing, or send in an email.
