Glen Park Village Farmers’ Market Returns for the Season

Drought Conditions Call for Greater Community Support

San Francisco (March 16, 2015) – The Glen Park Village Farmers’ Market will return on Sunday, March 29, 2015 with Northern California’s freshest fruits and vegetables, live music, and fun activities for all ages. The market, located at the Glen Park BART Station parking lot at Bosworth and Arlington, is open every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and runs through November 22. The entire Glen Park Village community is invited to join in opening day ceremonies with a ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. with Glen Park Merchants Association President Ric Lopez. Allen Moy, Pacific Coast Farmers’ Market Association (PCFMA)’s Executive Director, stated, “This farmers’ market is an integral part of our local food system. The California farmers who participate in the farmers’ market every week are selling fresh fruits and vegetables that they grow themselves. With the added pressures of the ongoing drought, these farmers are counting on the support of the Glen Park Village residents to help sustain their farms.”
More than two dozen California farmers and other local food producers are expected to be selling their products in the market on opening day. Jorge Vega, Peninsula Regional Market Manager, said, “We are looking forward to introducing new producers to the Glen Park Village community, as well as seeing our friends from last season. We have a lot of fun activities planned for kids and adults to enjoy while they shop the fresh, local produce provided by our farmers.” Throughout the year, patrons can enjoy an array of musical entertainment and seasonal events. PCFMA will also provide a stroller parking area, as well as a dog “barking” (parking) station.
The market, which is sponsored by the Glen Park Merchants Association, provides Glen Park Village residents a great, convenient way to support local California farmers, especially during the state’s trying drought. This year, the market will welcome several new producers, as well as favorite producers from past seasons. These local farms will offer a constantly changing variety of seasonal California produce, including earthy asparagus, flavorful mushrooms, juicy strawberries, and Asian greens. In addition, the market will feature locally-grown dahlias, locally-caught fresh seafood, and locally-made sauces, tamales, and empanadas.
