Diamond/Bosworth Improvements Moving Ahead in 2014
This week, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) posted notices in Glen Park that the Diamond/Bosworth intersection improvements proposed since adoption of the Glen Park Community Plan in February 2012 will be considered at an SFMTA Engineering Public Hearing on December 27, 2013, starting at 10:00 am. The hearing will be in Room 416 at City Hall.
The hearing will consider the sidewalk widening on the north side of Bosworth east and west of Diamond, on the south side of Bosworth east of Diamond, and the east and west sides of Diamond south of Bosworth.
The plan will also remove three metered parking space on the west side of Diamond north of Bosworth, to allow for a new left-turn lane southbound from Diamond to Bosworth. The project will shorten pedestrian routes across Diamond and Bosworth Streets, improve bus loading, and smooth traffic movements. There will be left-turn lanes for all four directions.
The proposals for intersection improvements and sidewalk widening were addressed in the Community Plan. The design now up for SFMTA hearing has evolved from work brought to the Glen Park community at many quarterly GPA meetings in 2012 and 2013. We understand that SFMTA traffic engineers, MUNI staff, and the fire department have reviewed the plans for operational feasibility
The hearing and other approval steps are expected to allow construction to begin in early 2014.
The public can comment or ask questions at the hearing, or by email:
“The purpose of traffic engineering hearings for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) Sustainable Streets Division is for residents to express their concerns regarding the posted parking and traffic changes affecting their streets. At the hearing, the public hearing officer, after reviewing the items and listening to residents, will make a decision as to whether the items are approved or not. Any interested parties are encouraged to attend.”
“Opinions on these proposed changes may be filed in writing prior to the hearing by email (link to firstname.lastname@example.org) with the subject line “Public Hearing.” Written opinions may also be transmitted to the Sustainable Streets Division via fax at 415.701.4737 or by mail: Engineering Public Hearing, Sustainable Streets Division, One South Van Ness Avenue, 7th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94103-5417. Submitted opinions will become part of the official public record and will be brought to the attention of the person(s) conducting the hearing
The plans will also have additional review and approval at the full SFMTA board of directors at a later hearing.
Planning and MTA staff will attend the January 15, 2014 GPA quarterly meeting and present further updates.
